The annual general meeting (AGM) of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Brain Tumours (APPGBT) takes place at Westminster today, on 16th July.
The meeting will hear from expert speakers on the topics of the ketogenic diet and new surgical techniques to improve seizure control after a brain tumour.
Emma Williams MBE and Sue Wood of the ketogenic dietary therapy charity Matthew’s Friends will talk about their work in supporting brain tumours patients who are using the diet to manage symptoms.
The spotlight will also fall on new surgical techniques as Ashan Jayasekera, a researcher at the University of Newcastle and Chair of the British Neurosurgical Trainees Association, is explaining his research looking at magnetic resonance spectroscopy, a non-invasive scanning technique, which could help surgeons better identify and map the regions of the brain around a tumour which can then be removed, sparing healthy tissue.
