A mother is raising money to help find a cure after her three-year-old daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Paola Gallardo is taking on our 10,000 Steps a Day in February Challenge after her daughter Sonia was diagnosed in August 2019. Sonia was diagnosed with a suprasellar low-grade glioma after months of tests to try to find the cause of her unexplained weight loss.

Due to its location close to the optic nerve, Sonia’s tumour is inoperable. She began an 18-month course of chemotherapy in September 2019 and has 17 weeks of treatment remaining. She also continues to be monitored with MRI scans every three months.

Inspired by her daughter, Paola is joining thousands of other fundraisers around the country in taking on our 10,000 Steps a Day in February challenge. She has already tripled her target to raise more than £600 on her Facebook fundraiser.

Paola said: “Research is really important to us, as it meant that when Sonia got her diagnosis, she had treatment options and when there are options, there is hope. I’ve signed up to this challenge, to raise awareness and support a cause really close to our hearts.”
