The annual general meeting (AGM) of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Brain Tumours (APPGBT) is taking place today.
Chaired by Derek Thomas MP, the virtual meeting will review the last year, and MPs and Peers in attendance will hear from speakers on a varied agenda.
Topics for discussion include the brain tumour research translational pipeline. Professor Silvia Marino, Principal Investigator at our Centre of Excellence at Queen Mary University of London, will present on the need for adequate funding from scientist’s bench to patient’s bedside. Whilst the last 20 years has seen significant improvements in our understanding of how cancer develops, options for treating brain tumours remain very limited. Prof Marino will explain how investment in discovery research is crucial in order to improve outcomes for patients.
A major campaigning milestone in the last year has been our #BrainTumourPetition and the resultant Level Up and Stop the Devastation Petition Report. Sue Castle-Smith, our Head of PR & Communications, will share the views of the brain tumour community and the path to our Petition Report, which has been sent to all members of the APPGBT.
We will share minutes of the meeting on our website on Friday. You can keep up to date with proceeding by following #APPGBT on Twitter today.
