An amazing supporter has run the equivalent of 19 marathons in January, raising more than £4,000 to help find a cure for brain tumours.
Kieron McCann, a semi-professional footballer at Cray Valley FC, set out on the 496-mile running challenge to raise funds in memory of Darel Bryan, his former next-door neighbour and family friend. Darel passed away from a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) in February 2016, aged 34. The Fundraising Group, The Darel Bryan Foundation, was set up in his memory to raise greater awareness, as well as vital funds.
Running one mile on 1st January, Kieron has upped the distance by an extra mile each day. On each of the last five days, he has run the equivalent of a marathon or more. Today, on the final run of his epic challenge and having already accumulated 465 miles, he will cover an incredible 31 miles.
Charlie Allsebrook, Community Development Manager at Brain Tumour Research, said: “We are blown away by Kieron’s fantastic achievement. To take on such a monumental challenge is amazing, but to actually complete it is phenomenal!
“We are really grateful to everyone who has donated in Darel’s memory.
If you would like to support Kieron’s amazing challenge, there is still time to donate to his JustGiving page.
