Husband and wife Jim and Gill Murphy have a double cause to celebrate as they take part in Wear A Hat Day with Flowers.
The couple from Cawood in Yorkshire are sporting very special hats which have been specially created for them by members of the community.
They are appealing for people across the UK to take part in some flowery fun whilst making donations and fundraising for Brain Tumour Research.
Sadly, they know only too well the devastation a brain tumour diagnosis causes – Gill, who celebrates her birthday today, was diagnosed with a low-grade tumour 18 years ago and has undergone surgery and multiple courses of treatment. Her tumour has now been reclassified as a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) and, in what we reckon to be a one in a million chance, Jim was himself diagnosed with a GBM and underwent surgery just a few weeks ago.
He is currently on radiotherapy and has been sharing his story, including how he sent selfies from surgery during his awake craniotomy, with the aim of giving hope to others.
Over the years their fundraising group Circle of Hope has raised nearly £100,000 for Brain Tumour Research and will be hoping to add to this during Wear A Hat Day with Flowers.
We thank them for their ongoing support, wish them every success today and pass on our best wishes for Gill’s birthday too. Thanks also to Lisa Stonehouse for this wonderful photo.
