A woman who felt compelled to lose weight so she can take part in a charity skydive in memory of her brain cancer mum has almost reached her goal.
Sarah Turner, 35, from Walsall, has shed more than one-and-a-half stone in just four months.
The teaching assistant, pictured above before beginning her weight loss journey, said: “My weight has always held me back from taking part in a skydive. I’ve always wanted to do one but have always been too heavy to take part. Seeing what Mum went through, I knew I had to make a change and honour her memory.”
Sarah, who is mum to six-year-old Lily-Rose, has dropped two dress sizes by changing her eating habits and learning about the mental side of weight loss.
Having already gone from 13st 8lb to 12st, she has six pounds to go so that she can take part in the Shrewsbury Jump for Hope on Saturday 8th June to raise money for Brain Tumour Research.
Sarah, pictured below now, said: “I’m so close to making the recommended weight to be able to skydive and I’m confident I’ll do it.”
Her inspiration is her mum, Susan Forrester, who died just three weeks after she was diagnosed with brain cancer in April 2023, after suffering with headaches and vomiting.
The grandmother-of-four, also from Walsall, died following complications after suffering a stroke during surgery to remove the tumour. She was 61.
Sarah said: “Mum took everything in her stride and despite being diagnosed with a brain tumour, she remained in good spirits even before she was taken down to theatre. Had I known that was the last time I would have a conversation with her, I would have told her that I love her.”
“During the weeks we had with Mum, knowing she had a brain tumour, I found myself reading other patient stories, all of which seemed equally as devastating. My hope is that through sharing our family’s experience of this horrible disease, we can drive investment towards research so we can better understand brain tumours and find kinder treatments and eventually a cure.”
