An East London nightclub is rolling out the red carpet on Friday 9 December inspired by Lisa Connell, the founder of Brain Tumour Research’s Officially Lisa Connell Fundraising Group.
Tomorrow’s event at Faces in Gants Hill will be hosted by artist and producer, Kid Bouji (who discovered Natasha Bedingfield) and TV presenter and DJ, Andy Franklin. The cast and crew of award-winning film Legacy will also be attending, along with a line-up of DJs, such as DJ Hotsteppa, Scott Garcia, Faze 2 Music and many more.
Lisa was diagnosed with an incurable meningioma brain tumour at the age of 26 after falling pregnant and experiencing double vision. Sadly she lost the baby.
She underwent gamma knife surgery and, some years later, surgery and radiotherapy when the tumour was found to be growing and Lisa was experiencing partial paralysis from the waist down as the tentacles of her tumour pressed around crucial nerves in the brain.
Now living with regular painful facial spasms, Lisa has an uncertain future as any future growth could be fatal.
Setting up Officially Lisa Connell, Lisa said: “I am prioritising making the most of whatever time I have left to raising funds for research to bring about better outcomes for brain tumour patients. Just 12% of those diagnosed survive beyond five years, compared to around 50% for all cancers.”
