The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Brain Tumours (APPGBT) held its Inaugural Meeting of this Parliamentary session.
Parliamentarians agreed to continue the APPGBT and reviewed its work programme for the coming year.
The meeting took place yesterday, World Cancer Day, and so MPs and Peers in attendance discussed their connections, or those of constituents, with brain tumours, perhaps the most devastating type of cancer.
Derek Thomas MP was re-elected Chair, a role he first took on in July 2017. Under Derek’s tenure, the APPGBT has focused on a wide array of topics, from more research focused matters to areas such as supporting the rehabilitation of younger brain tumour patients.
The APPGBT was founded in 2005, after a group of founding charities of Brain Tumour Research had worked tirelessly to raise the need for more research into brain tumours up the political agenda. Since the formation of the APPGBT, MPs and Peers from across the political spectrum have worked together in supporting the brain tumour community, researchers, clinicians and most importantly, patients and their families.
