As part of the 47th Annual Meeting of the International Society for Paediatric Neurosurgery (ISPN) taking place at the ICC in Birmingham, today saw the first ISPN Parents Meeting.
This offered parents and carers a unique opportunity to directly interact with world-class paediatric neurosurgeons, who delivered informal lectures, information and Q&A sessions throughout the day.

- Supporting Families & Children with a Brain Tumour
- Funding Research into Brain Tumours
- Children’s Brain Tumours – making sense of it all: a presentation delivered by Prof. Richard Gilbertson, a UK based paediatric oncology clinician scientist who also chairs the Tessa Jowell Brain Cancer Mission of which Brain Tumour Research is a partner, with our Chief Executive, Sue Farrington Smith MBE, representing our community on the Steering Group and the research programme working party .
We were pleased to be in Birmingham for this event, represented by Hugh Adams, our Head of Stakeholder Relations and Katie Sheen our Research Manager.
In his welcome message in the event’s programme, Chair of the meeting Guirish A Solanki - from the Birmingham Women’s & Children’s Hospital - wrote: “Neurosurgery has seen tremendous change with greater understanding, better techniques and improved outcomes in many areas. The annual ISPN meeting with its outstanding scientific content allows all of us to maintain pace with the rapidly advancing knowledge and improving standards of care.”
This event was a good opportunity for the patient and carer voice to be aired in such prestigious and relevant company.
