The Scottish Cancer Coalition, a partnership of voluntary organisations which includes Brain Tumour Research, met yesterday. The Coalition works with the Scottish Government (SG), NHS Scotland, health and third sector bodies to improve cancer services and outcomes for patients in Scotland, and to promote research and prevention efforts.
The Coalition is working closely with the SG and is mentioned in the recovery and redesign: cancer services - action plan produced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The action plan states that: “We will continue to engage with our key third sector partners, such as the Scottish Cancer Coalition and the Less Survivable Cancers Taskforce, utilising their insight and expertise in patient experience and specific cancers.”
Joe Woollcott from Brain Tumour Research acts as Coalition representative on the Clinical Trials working group.
He said: “We are working with the Coalition to identify and propose solutions to the challenges surrounding clinical trials as services recover from the effects of the pandemic. I firmly believe that we are currently presented with an opportunity to not just recover affected services but improve and build a better, more resilient system.
“It is extremely encouraging to see the SG, NHS and third sector working so closely to safeguard and embed cancer research now and in the future.”
