A woman whose one-year-old daughter is undergoing treatment for a rare and aggressive brain tumour is hoping her hattastic fundraising will blossom to help find a cure.
Esmai Wright-Stanford was just seven months old when she was diagnosed with an anaplastic ependymoma. Her mum Chloe said: “They said she would need at least a year of chemotherapy treatment and that the tumour is life-threatening with a survival rate of 50%.”
Inspired by her daughter’s diagnosis, Chloe is planning an 80s-themed Wear A Hat Day with Flowers event at Potters Bar pub in Meir Park, where she works. Attendees will be invited to wear costumes and adorn their heads with 80s floral arrangements, with prizes on offer for the best hat and the best overall outfit.
It is the second event that Chloe (pictured back row, second from left) has organised for Brain Tumour Research after she took part in our flagship Wear A Hat Day in March. She has raised more than £1,100 to date.
Chloe added: “My family and colleagues have been incredibly supportive and alongside talking therapy I have a great network around me. We need to better understand how to detect brain tumours earlier and how they can be treated so other families don’t have to go through this horrendous experience.”
