With the big day just around the corner, we’re excited to introduce one of our key worker families starring in our Wear A Hat Day campaign.
Eighteen-year-old Matthew Pullan is taking part along with five members of his family including his twin brother Alex. Matthew has been diagnosed with a brain tumour twice; the first when he was three and more recently, at the age of 17. He is currently receiving chemotherapy to treat his high-grade brainstem tumour.
Matthew’s dad, Gary, and step mum, Claire, worked as paramedics with the Northwest Ambulance Service throughout the pandemic. They feature in the campaign along with Alex and the boys’ brother, Mark, 15, and stepbrother Samuel,12.
Matthew said: “I’m really proud of Claire and Dad for the jobs they do. They’ve even appeared on the BBC One TV series ‘Ambulance’.
“It’s been a really tough time for all of us. We were all devastated when we discovered I had another brain tumour but Dad was particularly shaken, having lost my mum to cancer eight years ago. We are a tightknit family and all feel that we are in it together and will support each other through these difficult times.”
We’re hoping to make this the hattiest Wear A Hat Day yet. Please join us on Friday 26th March and help raise vital funds to get us closer to a cure for brain tumours.
