Our Patron Theo Burrell shares news of tumour growth

Our Patron Theo Burrell has today shared news that she will undergo further chemotherapy treatment “in the next couple of weeks” following a scan that showed regrowth of her brain tumour.

The Antiques Roadshow expert, who has a four-year-old son, has worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the disease since her diagnosis with a glioblastoma (GBM) in June 2022 and subsequent surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

In a statement released on her social media channels this morning, Theo wrote: “Results are in and regrowth has been confirmed. It's been a tough few months and it's not the news we wanted but at least answers have been given. I'll be starting back on chemo (Temozolomide) in the next couple of weeks.

“So it's onwards and forwards (upwards is maybe a little too cheery for me right now!) I go. Thank you in advance to everyone for your kindness and support and sorry to my friends who are perhaps finding out how I am via an Instagram post, but texting my entire phone book is a bit beyond me atm!”

Theo, who became a Patron in November 2023, has campaigned for increased Government investment in research into brain tumours and raised tens of thousands of pounds to support ground-breaking research taking place at Brain Tumour Research’s Centres of Excellence to help find a cure and improve treatment options.

In July, Theo, 38, who lives in East Lothian, was a guest of honour at a reception in Glasgow when we announced a unique collaboration with Beatson Cancer Charity. The partnership aims to launch our first Scottish Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence, which will focus on progressing promising new treatments for GBM into much-needed clinical trials.

Dan Knowles, CEO at Brain Tumour Research, said: “Theo and her family remain very much in our thoughts, and we send them our very best wishes. She is a much-loved member of the wider brain tumour community to whom she has been a source of inspiration, and I know it will now be offering support and love at this very difficult time.”

You can help to change the story for people like Theo by making a donation. However big or small, together we can make a difference.
