A teenager, who has raised nearly £14,000 for Brain Tumour Research, is crossing the festive finish line of an impressive advent challenge.
William Priddy, 13, has run four miles every day in the run up to Christmas. To make his fundraising all the more festive, he has worn a different Christmas-themed costume each day, crafted by his mum Jo. So far, his costumes have included a Christmas pudding, snowflake, angel, bauble and a cracker.
This is the latest in a series of challenges that William has undertaken following his dad Greg’s shock diagnosis with a rare brain tumour last year. He is running a mile a day for a year and, in October, he ran a virtual London Marathon. The family is shielding to protect clinically-vulnerable Greg during COVID-19 so William completes every mile by doing laps of his back garden.
For his final advent run on Christmas Day, William will be dressed as ‘the little drummer boy’, a tribute to his great-grandfather William Steer, after whom he is named and whose favourite song was Peace on Earth. It will mark 18 years since the day he died. His sister Amelia will also be performing a dance from The Nutcracker to friends and family via video.
Charlie Allsebrook, our Community Development Manager, said: “The Priddy family has had a more difficult year than most but their positive attitude and innovative fundraising ideas have kept both them and us thoroughly entertained throughout. We’re extremely grateful for all their support and amazing fundraising during this festive period.”
