Government to publish new health bill

1 min read

Baroness Blackwood, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department of Health and Social Care, is expected to bring the Medicines and Medical Devices Bill before Parliament tomorrow, Thursday 13th February.

The Bill was initially announced in the Queen’s Speech and cites some interesting ambitions, such as reducing ‘red-tape’ regulations around certain types of clinical trials and encouraging more innovative clinical trials for emerging therapies, something recommended by the 2018 Inquiry of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Brain Tumours

The Bill is primarily a Brexit piece of legislation, as new laws are required to align with changes brought about by the UK’s departure from the EU. As such, it will provide the first insight into whether or not the UK health and science policy will diverge significantly from the EU.
