A group of friends have raised more than £5,300 for Brain Tumour Research with a charity head shave in support of a pal who has been diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour.
Twenty-year-old James King was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) in September, after an eye test revealed an abnormality. He underwent surgery to debulk the tumour, followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
As treatment caused James to lose his hair, his friends Kieren Marriott (pictured) and Dalton Tomlinson decided to shave their heads to raise money for research into the disease. They braved the shave on Saturday 12th December alongside James’ girlfriend Millie Colbear’s brother, Sam Colbear and Matt Robinson, the boyfriend of Sam and Millie’s sister Olivia.
Sam said: “When I started researching brain tumours, I was shocked to discover the stark statistics surrounding the disease. The more I read about it, the angrier I became. I am angry at the underfunding for research into brain cancer and the lack of options for patients like James. I am committed to do all I can to try to make a difference.
“We are delighted with the amount we have raised for Brain Tumour Research so far but it doesn’t end here. I’m already planning my next fundraiser, which might be a cycling or running challenge, and my dad and I have plans to climb Mount Kilimanjaro next year, COVID-permitting. We owe it to James to do all we can.”
