A group of fundraisers from Wakefield are walking, cycling and running thousands of miles in memory of a loved one.
Lydia Carfrae-Brohaska was diagnosed with a highly aggressive glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) whilst living in Austin, Texas, in August 2018. Upon hearing of her diagnosis, friends and family in her home town of Wakefield took on a sponsored virtual fitness challenge to cover 4,735 miles, the distance between her place of birth and home in the USA.
Sadly, Lydia’s treatment stopped working in April 2020 and she flew home with her husband Stuart to spend her final weeks with her family. She passed away on 22nd May, aged 36.
Now, Lydia’s family has once again turned to fundraising to help them through this difficult time. Spearheaded by Lydia’s cousin, Rosie Crawford (pictured), the team are resuming the 4,735-mile challenge. They are aiming to complete the distance by Lydia’s 37th birthday on 2nd February 2021.
Having already raised a staggering £11,500 from the first part of the challenge, the team hopes to raise at least another £1,000. The family have set up the Fundraising Group Lydia’s Wish in order to further strengthen their amazing fundraising efforts.
