A mum-of-three who struggled with her self-esteem after surgery to remove a brain tumour is taking on a 20 for 20 challenge to raise money for Brain Tumour Research.
Sarah Kavanagh was diagnosed with a grade 2 oligodendroglioma in February 2018, after experiencing symptoms for 10 years prior to her diagnosis. She underwent an awake craniotomy which removed 60-70% of the tumour and still suffers from seizures.
Now, Sarah is taking part in the 20 for 20 challenge by dressing up each day for 20 consecutive days. She is encouraging her friends and family to do the same while adding a donation to her fundraising page to boost self-esteem and mental health during lockdown. Her challenge has been featured on My London, Ealing Times, This Is Local London and Harrow Online.
20 for 20 is a collaboration of 20 charities for lesser-known cancers that have joined forces to create an exciting 20-day fundraising challenge. Cancer doesn’t stop for Covid and 20 for 20 was created in response to the disruption charities have faced as a result of the pandemic.
Sarah said: “I am doing this to raise money for Brain Tumour Research as there is so much we still need to know about this disease. I am also doing it for my self-esteem. I know that so many people are struggling with their mental health during lockdown and I hope that maybe they will read my story and perhaps they will take part with me and it will help them.”
Since beginning her 20 for 20 challenge, Sarah has raised more than £1,350. If you would like to support her, you can make a donation via her JustGiving page.
