Northallerton teenager Naomi Savage is celebrating today after picking up her GCSE results.
Naomi, 16, has battled brain cancer throughout her entire school career. She was just four when she was first diagnosed with an ependymoma.
She underwent three craniotomies, almost 30 long and intensive bouts of chemotherapy and endured a number of scares and setbacks along the way. Her condition is now stable but there is a possibility the tumour could return.
But it was all smiles today as Naomi and her mum Lucy, a nurse, went to Northallerton School and Sixth Form College. Lucy was picking up her grades for GCSEs in English Literature, English Language, Mathematics, Science, History, Spanish, Music, and Art.
Head of Year 11 Tom Bunn said: “Naomi is a very conscientious, diligent and dedicated student, who has an inquisitive and insightful nature. However, throughout her time in education, Naomi has been faced with a huge amount of adversity due to her medical treatment.
“Nevertheless Naomi has demonstrated a great deal of resilience, determination and fortitude to achieve a fantastic set of GCSE results.These accomplishments are remarkable due to the impact of her medical history and, as a school, we are exceptionally proud of her.”
Naomi has been offered a place at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College in Darlington to study A levels in Fine Art, English Language, and Applied Science.
