The announcement from Brain Tumour Research of a £144,000 investment into childhood brain tumour research has been welcomed in the headlines.
Our Head of Stakeholder Relations Hugh Adams was interviewed on BBC One East and explained why the investment, which will increase the team at our Centre of Excellence at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), is so important.
He said: “This funding announcement is so significant for us. It means we can continue the research being done into medulloblastoma at QMUL and it means we can add another member to the team. We’re starting to get a momentum there; we’re starting to see some progress and this will add to that. It is absolutely vital and very gratefully received.”

The funding has been possible largely thanks to a generous donation from our Member Charity, The Children’s Brain Tumour Foundation. The charity was set up by Cheryl and Paul Davis with other parents, doctors and researchers to raise awareness and fund research into childhood brain tumours, following the diagnosis of their son Miles, aged five.
In winding down their charity, they are donating the balance of their fundraising to Brain Tumour Research. The money will fund a four-year PhD student to work with Professor Silvia Marino (pictured) at QMUL.
