Nick was 29 when he was diagnosed with an aggressive anaplastic oligodendroglioma, just six months after he married Rachael.
Despite surgery, radiotherapy and starting what was supposed to be eight months of temozolomide chemotherapy, Nick’s headaches, the first sign that anything was wrong, returned and he had a seizure. A scan showed that the tumour had recurred, but was too deep to operate.
The couple celebrated their 30th birthdays together with friends and family (Rachael’s birthday is just a day earlier), but it wasn’t the 30th birthday they had envisaged given he was on chemo and terminally ill.
Nearly 10 years after losing her husband, 10 months after his diagnosis, Rachael is celebrating her 40th without him and remembering the happy times they had together. “I’ll love you always and forever, my angel in the sky” she said.
Rachael is grateful to all who remember Nick and especially to Mid Kent Golf Club which has chosen The Nick Cotton Foundation fundraising for Brain Tumour Research as its charity of the year.
