The news last Friday, 24th May, that global singing sensation Alfie Boe OBE has become our new Patron made headlines in almost 200 titles and broadcast media, including BBC Breakfast, BBC Radio 5 Live Drive (listen at 1:51:06), the Times series, The Standard (London) and yahoo! news, helping raise vital awareness of the brain tumour cause.
Speaking on BBC 5 Live, the award-winning operatic tenor said: “When I found out the amount of funding that gets awarded from the Government, I was shocked… I wanted to try and help out as best I could and to be a huge part of it.”
BBC Online continued with this theme, reporting that Alfie was “angry” there have been “so few advances” in the treatment of brain tumours, nearly three decades after his father died from the disease.
And ahead of his 18-date UK tour which starts tomorrow 30th May, Alfie, who was just 23 when he lost his father Alfred to a brain tumour, shared on BBC Breakfast: “I have a song in my set… and it’s literally called Father and it’s all about him and about what he did for me.”
Brain Tumour Research’s fundraising team will be at Alfie’s concerts including the final night at Blackpool Opera House on Friday 5th July to collect donations from concertgoers. There will also be a flyer within the programme with a QR code for people to find out more about Alfie’s role as our Patron.
