To mark our recent parliamentary reception in Speakers House, Stephen Gethins MP (Scottish National Party, North East Fife) kindly tabled an ‘Early Day Motion’ (EDM) in Parliament. An Early Day Motion is a short proposal that allows MPs to indicate that they support a particular cause.
The EDM congratulates Brain Tumour Research on our 10th anniversary and notes the key points from our new ‘Find A Cure’ manifesto – the need to grow capacity for research into brain tumours, build research infrastructure and accelerate treatment options for patients.
More than 25 MPs from across the political spectrum have supported the EDM so far, and several members of the House of Lords (EDMs are instruments of the House of Commons, so can’t be signed by members of the House of Lords) have also indicated their support.
We are glad to see such a breadth of support from across Parliament and from politicians representing constituencies from all corners of the United Kingdom. This is testament to the hard work of all our supporters who have engaged with their MPs.

Stephen put forward the EDM in support of his constituent, Vanessa Dury. The launch of Brain Tumour Research could not have been as successful without the dedication and help of Vanessa who galvanised support from a number of MPs and peers for the launch and three months later drafted the charity’s first statistics report, which gained national media coverage. Vanessa has first-hand experience of the impacts after her daughter, Maisie, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2007.
