More than £11,000 has been raised through a fundraising golf day last Friday (28th June 2024) in memory of Paul Walden, who died from a brain tumour in November 2020, aged 57.
Paul, who was affectionately known as Wally, ran his own taxi business and had also been a publican. He loved golf and was also a very good footballer, successfully managing a number of semi-professional teams.
His friend Ian Tyler (pictured above far left), who knew Paul (pictured below) for about 20 years, said: “It was really shocking when Paul died at such a young age. He was a larger-than-life character, a real local personality, who was so much fun to spend time with.
“We were blown away with the amount raised this year, the best year so far! We had some fantastic auction prizes donated this year, but I think the thing that made the day extra special is the fact that we held this year’s event at Louth Golf Club where Paul was a member for several years.”
This is the fourth year running that Paul’s friends Ian Tyler, Mark Heale, Stephen Spring and Ian Evison have organised the event, attracting more than 100 players each year. Over the years an incredible combined total of more than £38,000 has been achieved – enough to sponsor the equivalent of 13 days of research at one of our Centres of Excellence in Paul’s memory – a wonderful legacy for a much-missed friend.
