Fifteenth annual International Brain Tumour Awareness Week

1 min read

Today marks the start of the 15th International Brain Tumour Awareness Week.

The event is championed by the International Brain Tumour Alliance (IBTA). It sees the international brain tumour community uniting to draw attention to the particular challenges of a brain tumour diagnosis and the need for a special response and an increased research effort.

IBTA is also launching Brilliance: A Virtual Exhibition of Creative Works from the Global Brain Tumour Community in conjunction with the awareness week.

Kathy Oliver, Founding Co-Director and Chair at IBTA, said: “The worldwide brain tumour community is growing, collaborations and friendships are made and collaborative partnerships are continually being established with the worlds of science, government healthcare policy, key opinion leaders, industry and others. International Brain Tumour Awareness Week is at the global heart of that.

“The Awareness Week is for everyone who has been impacted by a brain tumour. It is for anyone who hopes to see better outcomes for those diagnosed with this awful disease and – on a personal front for our own family – it is for Colin, my son who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2004 at age 24 and passed away, aged 32, in August 2011. I hope you are able to support our week.”

More information, ideas for how to get involved and an Awareness Week Toolkit, can be found on IBTA’s website here.
