Crowning Glory hat auction launches today

2 min read
A fascination of hats inspired by the royal racing colours has been created by some of the biggest names in UK millinery.

Created by members of The British Hat Guild, the 22 one-off pieces include hats by royal milliners Stephen Jones OBE and Rachel Trevor-Morgan and will be auctioned to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research.

The hats are being exhibited as Crowning Glory: A Milliners’ Celebration of All the King’s Colours, which will be hosted by The Jockey Club over the Coronation weekend at the QIPCO Guineas Festival in Newmarket (5th – 7th May) and The Derby at Epsom Downs (3rd and 4th June).

Each of the hats has been fashioned in combinations of scarlet, purple, black and gold – the colours of the royal racing silks – to celebrate the Coronation. They have been modelled by celebrities, patients, and others affected by the disease, and feature in an online auction which is live until June with proceeds going to Brain Tumour Research.

Among those showcasing the hats are actress Vicki Michelle MBE; TV racing presenter and former jockey Leonna Mayor; presenter and former model Rosie Tapner; and mezzo-soprano Laura Wright.

Also modelling are Melissa Ross who lives with debilitating pain after brain tumour surgery; Olivia Kold who lost her father, an equine vet, to the disease; amateur jockey Jess Llewellyn who also lost her father Gwilym to a brain tumour; Tina Papworth, foster mum to 18 children, who lost the sight in one eye after her diagnosis; and Paige Gouge who has an aggressive brain tumour and is undergoing immunotherapy treatment in Germany

The auction is now live. To see all the hats and place your bids, visit www.braintumourresearch.org/crowning-glory
