A Buckinghamshire-based choir held a concert last weekend to raise funds for the charity after losing two much-loved members to brain tumours.
The Adstock Singers’ summer concert, called Fly Singing Bird, was held on Saturday 3rd June and included a broad repertoire of songs from composers such as Rogers & Hammerstein, Edward Elgar and Burt Bacharach.
Choir director Lucy Bignall introduced the event and explained that the choice of songs and music celebrating life and the beauty of summer also reflected particular favourites of their first pianist and one of their talented sopranos, both lost to the devastating disease.
Emma Shudell from Buckingham became a charity supporter following her diagnosis and was incredibly proud of her son for his fundraising support for Brain Tumour Research. Finley instigated Wear A Hat Day at his primary school after his mum learnt she had an astrocytoma which later became a glioblastoma (GBM). This year, having moved onto senior school and losing his mum in September 2022, aged 44, Finley stood up in assembly at The Royal Latin School in Buckingham, to explain why the school should support Wear A Hat Day 2023. He enlisted various friends to help him sell pin badges and wristbands and, combined with donations, the school raised more than £1,200 in Emma’s memory.
It was very moving to have Finley, his sister, dad and granddad in the Fly Singing Bird audience. We are grateful to the Adstock Singers for choosing Brain Tumour Research as its Charity of the Year for 2023. Along with their total from a previous charity concert, Adstock Singers’ fundraising this year is now over £1,000.
