This Mental Health Awareness Week, an inspiring supporter is sharing how he’s focusing on turning his grief into something positive.
Later this month, Geraint Davies will take on a huge physical challenge motivated by the tragic loss of his older brother, Mark. On 28th May, Geraint will set out on a gruelling ‘bikepacking’ journey cycling 450 miles over five days to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research and My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
Mark was first diagnosed with a grade 2 glioma in 2005. He endured a 13-year battle with the tumour, during which he underwent gruelling treatment and experienced life-changing effects including severe epilepsy, sight loss and psychosis. Eventually, the disease spread and Mark spent the final three years of his life in a nursing home. He passed away in April 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
Geraint said: “Seeing my brave and beautiful brother take his last breath is not something that I have or ever will come to terms with. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I struggled with my grief more and more. I was out for a run over Christmas, thinking about Mark, when I decided I needed something positive to focus on.”
