Families affected by brain tumours are touring our Centre of Excellence at Imperial College London and meeting scientists at the forefront of the fight against the devastating disease.
Supporters will hear from neurosurgeon and clinical research fellow, Dr Giulio Anichini, as well as from our Head of Stakeholder Relations, Hugh Adams, before touring the labs and learning more about progress being made to find a cure for brain tumours.
Among those attending the event is Elaine Williams who has raised more than £13,000 for Brain Tumour Research since losing her daughter, Holly Loudon, to a brain tumour.
Holly, pictured with her seven-year-old son Harrison, underwent radiotherapy and chemotherapy but died in December 2015, aged 29, just 10 months after she was diagnosed.
Elaine works as PA to the Head at Ashford Prep School and introduced the school to our flagship fundraising campaign, Wear A Hat Day, shortly after Holly was diagnosed. Since then the school has supported Wear A Hat Day each year, raising more than £6,000.
Their collective fundraising means Elaine will place seven tiles on the Wall of Hope representing the equivalent of seven days of research being sponsored in Holly’s name.
Elaine said: “Holly wanted me to make everybody aware of how awful brain tumours are. I promised I’d do all I could to make that happen and by supporting Brain Tumour Research I’ve been able to do that.”
