Today our thoughts are with the family and friends of Elly Monaghan on the first anniversary of her death to a brain tumour.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Elly was diagnosed with a glioblastoma (GBM) in 2022. She had surgery followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment but had to stop chemo after just one and a half cycles because her body was unable to cope.
She passed away at home just 14 months after her diagnosis on 2nd July 2023, aged 70.
Determined to make a difference in Elly’s memory, her family asked for funeral donations to Brain Tumour Research and have since set up a Fundraising Group called Elly’s Herd because “we don’t want other families to find themselves in the same treatment dilemma as us with no answers”. Their fundraising activities so far have included taking part in our 100 a Day Your Way in November challenge and holding Wear A Hat Day events at work.
We are grateful to Elly’s loved ones for their support and commitment to helping find a cure for this devastating disease.
