Today we remember Sam Bravo-Hibberd on what should have been his 35th birthday.
The beloved husband and father of three was diagnosed with a glioblastoma (GBM) in September 2023, just two months after the birth of his third child, and given a devastating prognosis of just eight to 12 weeks.
Despite surgery and radiotherapy, Sam deteriorated and passed away just five months later, in February, aged 34.
Following his death, Sam’s wife Mauricee made a substantial donation in Sam’s name to fund 100 days of next generation sequencing at our Research Centre of Excellence at Queen Mary University of London.
A five-a-side football match is being held by friends and family in memory of the Manchester United fan on Saturday 23rd June at Powerleague Peterborough, alongside a raffle, to raise money for Brain Tumour Research.
Mauricee, who will be at the match with their children Theo, 14, Gabriel, three, and Alejandria, 11 months, said: “Our aim is to raise £2,740 to sponsor another day of research in Sam’s name and keep his legacy going. I’m so grateful to my friend Lois for organising the match and all the businesses that have donated amazing prizes for the raffle.
“Every day is hard without Sam by my side and the fact he isn’t here to celebrate his 35th birthday breaks my heart. This disease is cruel; it devastates families. We’ve got to keep shouting to raise awareness and fund more research to stop other families suffering the way we have.”
