We’re so pleased that you’re taking part in one of our Walks of Hope. Our supporters play a vital role in helping us get closer to our vision of finding a cure for all types of brain tumours.

We’re here to support you as much we can. If you have any questions about the walks you’ll find answers to our most frequently asked questions below.

London Walk of Hope

What do I need to bring on the day? 

All you really need to bring to the event is yourself and your Walk of Hope t-shirt. We recommend checking the weather forecast ahead of time and ensuring you are wearing suitable footwear and clothing on the day.

What are the timings of the event?  

Registration 11am, start time 12am

Will there be toilets on site?  

Yes there are public toilets on site.

Can I bring my dog?  

Yes. Dogs are welcome to join our walk and are allowed in the main part of the park. Please note dogs are not allowed in the reflection gardens or sports pitches.

Will refreshments be provided?  

There is a cafe next to our pitch and we will be selling sweets and other small refreshments. You can also bring a water bottle and refill this at the onsite water fountain.

Will there be First Aiders available?

Yes – we will have qualified First Aiders at this event.

Will I receive a medal at the event? 

Yes, everyone who completes our Walk of Hope will receive a medal at the end of the event. 

Can I volunteer at the event? 

Absolutely! Please email walkofhope@braintumourresearch.org to enquire. 

What happens if I can no longer take part in the event? 

Please let our Fundraising team know by contacting your friendly Community Fundraiser or by emailing walkofhope@braintumourresearch.org.  

If you have already opened a JustGiving fundraising page you can choose to keep this open and continue to collect donations or close it if you would prefer.  

Will there be spare back signs available?

Yes, we will have spare “I’m walking for…” and “I’m walking in memory of…” back signs at the event. Please remember to bring your own safety pins to attach these to your t-shirt.

Will you take card payments?

Yes – we will have a card machine to take payments on the day.

Luton Walk of Hope

What do I need to bring on the day? 

All you really need to bring to the event is yourself and your Walk of Hope t-shirt. We recommend checking the weather forecast ahead of time and ensuring you are wearing suitable footwear and clothing on the day.

What are the timings of the event?  

Registration opens at 1:30pm at the Bandstand in Wardown Park. Please ensure you arrive on time. The Walk of Hope will start promptly at 2pm.

Is there parking and are there other transport options?  

There are two car parks situated in front of the Wardown Park Museum (accessed from New Bedford Road) and by the tennis courts of the park (accessed from Old Bedford Road).

There are also several parking bays along Old Bedford Road and parking can also be found in local residential streets surrounding the park. However, we advise wherever possible to please walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users.

Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.

By Bus

Wardown Park is well served by several local bus routes. Arriva No 24 and 25 (see the Arriva website for timetables) and Centrebus No 231 (see the Centrebuswebsite for timetable).

 By foot

The park is a short walk from Luton town centre. It is 1km (15-minute walk) from the train station. There are several bus routes that stop outside the entrances to the park on Old Bedford Road and New Bedford Road, all of which are less than a five-minute walk from the start and finish lines.

By road

The park is located on the A6, which connects Bedford in the north. If travelling via the M1, take the junction for Luton Airport, join the A505 and then follow the A6.

Will there be toilets on site?  

Walkers are permitted to use the toilets available at the Luton Town and Indians Cricket Club behind the museum.

Can I bring my dog?  

Yes. Dogs are welcome to join our walk but must be kept on a short lead at all times.

Will refreshments be provided?  

The Wardown Park Kiosk will be open and they are also providing an ice cream van. The Kiosk is very kindly making a donation to Brain Tumour Research.

Sweets, cakes and bottles of water will also be available on the day for a small donation.

Please bring some extra pennies to enjoy refreshments before or after your walk and don’t worry if you forget as we will also be able to take card payments.

Will there be First Aiders available?

Yes, there will be qualified First Aiders at the event.

Will I receive a medal at the event? 

Yes, everyone who completes our Walk of Hope will receive a medal at the end of the event.

Walk of Hope is not a timed or competitive event so there is no requirement for a minimum
fitness level to be able to complete the walk.

Motherwell Walk of Hope

What do I need to bring on the day?

All you really need to bring to the event is yourself and your Walk of Hope t-shirt. We recommend checking the weather forecast ahead of time and ensuring you are wearing suitable footwear and clothing on the day.

What are the timings of the event?

Registration for our Walk of Hope will open at 9:30am. The walk will start at 10:30am.

Is there parking and are there other transport options?  

There is free onsite parking at Strathclyde Country Park.

There are also multiple bus routes which stop nearby the park or you can travel by train and the station is a short walk from the park. Please see below for more details.

Will refreshments be provided?  

A variety of refreshments including sweet treats and drinks will be available. There
is also a cafe inside the rowing club.

What other activities are taking place on the day?

We are pleased to host a variety of stalls at our event, including temporary tattoos, face painters and a raffle including some amazing prizes from some of Scotland best known brands.

Will there be First Aiders available?

Yes – we will have qualified First Aiders at this event.

Will I receive a medal at the event? 

Yes, everyone who completes our Walk of Hope will receive a medal at the end of the
event. 

Can I volunteer at the event?

Chatsworth House Walk of Hope

What do I need to bring on the day?

All you really need to bring to the event is yourself and your Walk of Hope t-shirt. We recommend checking the weather forecast ahead of time and ensuring you are wearing suitable footwear and clothing on the day.

What are the timings of the event?

Registration for our Walk of Hope will open from 10am. The walk will start at 11am

Is there parking and are there other transport options?  

Yes, there is free parking through the Golden Gates entrance only.

Will there be toilets on site?  

Yes – free to use portaloos will be available.

Can I bring my dog? 

Yes. Dogs are welcome to join our walk but must be kept on a lead at all times.

Will refreshments be provided?  

Refreshments will be available to purchase.

What other activities are taking place on the day?

We’re pleased to offer a variety of stalls for you to browse, including our Brain Tumour Research Christmas merchandise, as well as a raffle with a host of excellent prizes.

Will there be First Aiders available?

Yes – we will have qualified First Aiders at this event.

Will I receive a medal at the event? 

Yes, everyone who completes our Walk of Hope will receive a medal at the end of the event. 

Can I volunteer at the event?

How fit do I need to be?

Ellesmere Walk of Hope

What do I need to bring on the day?

All you really need to bring to the event is yourself and your Walk of Hope t-shirt. We recommend checking the weather forecast ahead of time and ensuring you are wearing suitable footwear and clothing on the day.

What are the timings of the event?

Registration for our Walk of Hope will open from 10am. The walk will start at 11am.

Is there parking and are there other transport options?  

Free parking is available on the day at the Moors Car Park (SY12 0PA) and Castlefields Car Park (SY12 0RA).

There is paid-for on-street parking along the Meer and various car parks around the town.

Will there be toilets on site? 

Toilets are available at the start of our walk in Cremone Gardens and half way round on the Oteley Estate. 

Can I bring my dog? 

Yes. Dogs are welcome to join our walk but must be kept on a  lead on at all times.

Will refreshments be provided?  

Refreshments will be available to purchase at the start/finish and also in the gardens of Oteley Estate half way round.

What other activities are taking place on the day?

As well as our great walk, there will be bouncy castles, merchandise, a bar, a raffle and much more to enjoy on the day.

Will I receive a medal at the event? 

Yes, everyone who completes our Walk of Hope will receive a medal at the end of the event. 

Can I volunteer at the event?

How fit do I need to be? 

Our walk is 6km in distance, with a slight incline to the drive leading into Oteley Estate. Walk of Hope is not a timed or competitive event so there is no requirement for a minimum fitness level to be able to complete the walk. 

What happens if I can no longer take part in the event?

What are the timings of the event?

Registration for our Walk of Hope will open from 10am. The walk will start at 11am

Is there parking and are there other transport options?  

Yes, pay and display parking is available at the Cremyll Car Park. There are local bus links, and Plymouth Boat Trips is supporting the event by donating £1 per every rider on the Cremyll Ferry from Stonehouse (cash only).

Will there be toilets on site?  

Yes. Toilets will be available next to the registration desk and also midway through our walk at Maker Church.

Can I bring my dog?  

Yes. Dogs are welcome to join our walk but must be kept on a lead at all times.

Will refreshments be provided?  

Complimentary refreshments will be available midway through our walk at Maker Church.

You can also purchase refreshments from Aunty Em’s Gatehouse Shop and The Edgcumbe Arms which are conveniently located close to our registration desk.

What other activities are taking place on the day?

As well as our great walk, we’ll have a Clubbercise warm up (TBC), merchandise and raffle for you to enjoy.
