Bicep's Matt reveals brain tumour surgery

2 min read

Matt McBriar, 37, star of dance music duo Bicep, has revealed that he has had surgery for a brain tumour.

The electronic musician from Northern Ireland is one half of the DJ partnership Bicep, nominated for a Brit Award for Best Group in 2021.

Matt first realised he had problems when he started having severe headaches and fatigue at the end of 2023.

After blood tests and an MRI scan in the spring of 2024, Matt was told he had a craniopharyngioma tumour on his pituitary gland. Nevertheless, he continued to live life and play shows as normal until he had surgery.

Matt said: “I’d been very lucky to get those initial blood tests followed by an MRI. Had it been much longer I might’ve lost some eyesight and a load of other problems due to the size and position of the tumour pressing on my optic nerves.

‘I’ve been through many, many rounds of hospital appointments and tests since and finally had surgery on 9th of August.”

We wish Matt the very best for his recovery, which he has said will take at least 6-8 weeks, with “a long road of aftercare”, but he is feeling “incredibly grateful and lucky.”
